ISLAMABAD (92 News) Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday unveiled a special package for overseas Pakistanis during an address to the Overseas Pakistanis Convention 2025.
He said that special courts had been established in Islamabad for overseas Pakistanis, adding that work on establishing special courts in Punjab for overseas Pakistanis was underway.
He said that other provinces would also work on establishing special courts where overseas Pakistanis would be able to appear via a video link.
He announced that a 5 percent quota was being allocated for the children of overseas Pakistanis in all universities, stating that 5 percent of the 10,000 seats in universities would be reserved for overseas Pakistanis.
“The quota for overseas Pakistanis in medical colleges will be 15 percent,” he added.
The prime minister said that as many as 3,000 children of overseas Pakistanis would be admitted to medical colleges, 5,000 children of overseas Pakistanis would be taught skills, and there would be a five-year relaxation in the age limit for overseas Pakistanis in government jobs.
He also said that a special office had been established for overseas Pakistanis in Punjab for online sale deed registration, adding that the Board of Revenue had set up a special cell in Punjab to facilitate overseas Pakistanis.
He said that the authorities concerned had been directed to prepare the feasibility of an international airport in Mirpur, Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
“Overseas Pakistanis sent record remittances of $4.1 billion in March. Remittances sent by overseas Pakistanis are higher than our total exports, and awards will be given to 15 Pakistanis who sent the highest remittances,” he announced.
“Overseas Pakistanis will be given civil awards for their services,” he added.
Addressing the convention, the prime minister paid a glowing tribute to overseas Pakistanis for their services and said, “Today, our Pakistanis have come here from Europe, America, and the Gulf. One crore Pakistanis are settled in different parts of the world. Overseas Pakistanis have earned halal livelihoods through their hard work day and night and increased the prestige of Pakistan in all countries.”
He added, “More than 10 million overseas Pakistanis have served their homeland. Pakistanis abroad have made their place with hard work and dedication. Overseas Pakistanis are also our ambassadors. They are the crown of our heads. They have made a name for themselves in medicine, engineering, and other fields. The 240 million people of Pakistan salute overseas Pakistanis.”
