ISLAMABAD (92 News) - Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry said that Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan shocked to know about the sedition case against the PML-N leaders.

During a talk with 92 News program "Hard Talks Pakistan", Fawad Chaudhry said that the prime minister expressed surprise after knowing about the FIR of sedition case against former premier Nawaz Sharif and other PML-N leaders.

"PM Imran Khan says why should we promote their narrative by filing a case of sedition?," the minister maintained.

Earlier in his tweet, Fawad Chaudhry expressed his immense displeasure over a recent FIR lodged against Nawaz Sharif and his aides.“PM Imran Khan was unware of any such FIR against Nawaz Sharif, when I informed him about the case, he expressed immense displeasure,” he added.

The minister said that maybe someone wanted to implicate the former prime minister in a case.

"Filing treason cases is not our [PTI government's] policy. These were the tactics [used during] Nawaz Sharif's tenure," he said. The science minister said that the PTI was a political party and that it was yet to make its move. "The game has just begun."

Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Political Communication Dr Shahbaz Gill, in his tweet, said that filing treason cases against politicians was not his government policy, adding that PML-N government had been using these tactics in its tenure.

The FIR did not contain any clause of terrorism, he said and added that sedition clause was added in the case.

It is noteworthy that an FIR was registered against Nawaz on a criminal conspiracy for the provocative speeches he made in London to “defame Pakistan's institutions.

The FIR registered against Nawaz on October 1 was lodged by a citizen in the Shahdra Police Station’s jurisdiction. The case was registered under the provisions of the Pakistan Penal Code for criminal conspiracy against the PML-N supremo and other leaders.

The FIR alleges that the former prime minister, in his speeches, supported the policies of India, and claimed that Nawaz wanted to give the impression that Pakistan will be listed in the Financial Action Task Force's (FATF) grey list in its upcoming meeting.
