PM summons meeting of senators from PTI, coalition parties today

ISLAMABAD (92 News) - Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan has summoned a meeting of the senators from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and other coalition parties over Financial Action Task Force (FATF) related bills today (Thursday). According to the sources, the prime minister will discuss legislation on FATF-related bills during the meeting. He said that the opposition and Indian on a page regarding the FATF bill, however, the government will not compromise on its manifesto. The confidential sources also informed that the senators will meet the premier at 4:30pm today and the premier would listen to the issues being faced by lawmakers of the upper house of the parliament. The prime minister would also issue directives to the Senators on legislation pertaining to FATF and other matters. It is worth mentioning here that the opposition parties had foiled a bid from the government to pass a bill relating to FATF, anti-money laundering (second amendment) bill 2020 from the Senate. A day earlier, addressing a meeting of the government and party spokesperson, PM Imran Khan has said that the opposition and India are on the same page with regard to Financial Action Task Force (FATF). He also said that the opposition had stopped the FATF legislation to blackmail the government. The prime minister said that the opposition is damaging the country to save its corruption. “The government had allowed Nawaz Sharif to go abroad on humanitarian grounds,” he said. Imran Khan said that the government would not compromise on the manifesto of accountability. “The opposition has a great role in democracy. The opposition wants amendments to the anti-money laundering law for personal interests. It is preferring personal interests to national interests,” he added. During the meeting, PM Imran Khan was briefed about the steps taken for the repatriation of Nawaz Sharif.
