PM summons NCC meeting to decide about ease or tighten lockdown

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan has summoned a meeting of the National Coordination Committee (NCC) to decide whether to further ease or tighten the coronavirus lockdown. The meeting will take place on May 31 (Sunday) with the prime minister in the chair. All chief ministers, federal ministers and relevant authorities will attend the meeting that will take stock of the ongoing coronavirus crisis and will work out a future strategy in view of a sudden increase in infections and fatalities in the country. On the other hand, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Shibli Faraz called on PM Imran Khan in Islamabad. The matters related to overall situation in the country came under discussion. Earlier, PM Imran Khan has said that the lockdown will only slow down the coronavirus, not end it.  Talking to the media after chairing a meeting to review coronavirus situation on Friday, he clarified that the people will have to live with it. “We know that the coronavirs cases will increase in Pakistan in the coming days, but we also have to protect our people from hunger,” he added. He also appealed to the provinces to resume public transport because the poor people are facing a difficult time. “Transport has been resumed in the countries where much more deaths have been reported,” he added. PM Imran Khan said that the medical staff around the world is fighting against the disease like their peers in Pakistan. “Despite our limited resources, we gave a stimulus package of US$8 billion to its people, whereas the US allocated US$2,200 billion and Japan US$1,000 billion for this purpose,” he added. He said that all businesses will be opened gradually under the SOPs. “In Wuhan and South Korea, coronavirus has returned after disappearance. We cannot continuously clamp the lockdown which ended the business of 25 million people,” he added. The prime minister lauded the steps taken by the government to combat coronavirus.
