PM to perform ground-breaking of Mohmand Dam on Thursday: Vawda

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Minister of Water Resources Faisal Vawda said that Prime Minister Imran Khan will perform ground-breaking of Mohmand Dam upcoming Thursday. Addressing a news conference along with Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting Firdous Ashiq Awan, he said work is also in progress on 29 different small water reservoirs related projects in Balochistan. Faisal Vawda said that Mohmand Dam is 54 years old project, adding, “Mohamand Dam will not be allowed to make Kalabagh Dam at any cost.” He further said that the pace of work would be enhanced on the other dams. Meanwhile, former chief justices of Pakistan Justice (rtd) Mian Saqib Nisar will also attend the inauguration ceremony of Mohmand Dam and he will address the ceremony.  In a tweet today (Tuesday), Chairperson Senate Standing Committee on Information Faisal Javed thanked all the donors, who contributed to this great cause. “Prime Minister Imran Khan to perform the ground-breaking of Mohmand Dam on 2nd May 2019 insh'ALLAH #WaterForLife #Dams #PakistanZindabad Special thanks to all the Donars who are contributing for this great cause Masha'ALLAH #Prayers,” Faisal Javed tweeted.
Mohmand Dam construction work to start within next two weeks: WAPDA
Earlier on Jan 2, WAPDA Chairman Muzammil Hussain said that all the basic preparations have been finalized to launch the construction work on Mohmand Dam within next two weeks. While talking to the journalists, the WAPDA chairman said that the project has been awarded to the joint venture comprising China Gezhouba, Descon and Voith Hydro after clearing all the codal formalities. The chairman said China Gezhouba has seventy percent share in the project while Descon and Voith Hydro have thirty percent share. He also said that all legal, financial and technical impediments in the way of construction of the Dam have been addressed. Muzammil said that the government has expressed the resolve to provide all necessary resources for completion of this all important project keeping in view the growing water scarcity and to ensure food security in the country. He also acknowledged the sacrifices rendered by the tribal people living in surrounding areas of the Mohmand Dam Project for the peace and security of the country. The chairman said that his organization is committed to regain its past glory by executing much needed major Water storage projects like Diamir Bhasha and Mohamand Dams.
He pointed out that the WAPDA completed four important projects last year including Neelum-Jehlum hydro power, Tarbela-IV Extension, Golen Gol hydro power and Katchi Kanal projects. He said all the four units of Neelum-Jehlum Hydro Power Project are operational now, supplying cheaper Hydro electricity to the national grid. To a question, Chairman WAPDA said this project will be completed in five years.  He said it will provide jobs to six thousand locals including 358 Engineers.
