ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Information Asim Saleem Bajwa has said that Diamer Bhasha Dam will be a reservoir having capacity to store 6.4 MAF of water. In a tweet on Wednesday, he said that the reservoir will add 1.2 M acres for agriculture, 4,500MW cheaper and greener Hydel power, steel/cement/construction boost and 16,000 jobs. https://twitter.com/AsimSBajwa/status/1283287883663781888?s=20 Meanwhile, Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan reviewed the progress on construction of the Diamer-Bhasha dam in Gilgit-Baltistan during his visit to the site. Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Federal Minister for Water Faisal Vawda, DG ISI, Minister for Kashmir Affairs Ali Amin Gandapur and Special Assistant on Information and CPEC Authority chairman Lt Gen (rtd) Asim Saleem Bajwa were accompanying the premier on the visit. The prime minister visited the construction site of the world’s biggest RCC dam, to be built on the River Indus, and reviewed the pace and quality of the construction works. The premier has been given a briefing on Diamer- Bhasha Dam. He was shown a special documentary on the Bhasha Dam project and water efficiency. He was apprised that the construction of the dam will generate 16,500 employment while the local industry will be promoted following the usage of cement and steel. Diamer Bhasha Dam, a vital project for water, food and energy security of Pakistan, is being constructed on River Indus, 315 Kilometer (Km) upstream of Tarbela Dam, 180 Km downstream of Gilgit, and 40 Km downstream of Chilas town. The project is scheduled to be completed in 2028-29. It has three core objectives namely water storage for agriculture, flood mitigation and hydel power generation.
