KARACHI (92 News) - The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted more rain in Karachi on Friday (today). According to the details, several areas of Karachi are expected to receive heavy rainfall in afternoon today. PMD Chief Meteorological Officer (CMO) of Sardar Sarfraz has said that Karachi received unprecedented heavy rain due to interaction of a monsoonal system in Sindh and a westerly wave in Balochistan on Thursday. Low pressure of monsoon currents is currently present in Karachi. The metropolis was devastated after receiving unprecedented rains on Thursday as many areas are still flooded with rainwater. On the other hand, the death toll from the disastrous record-breaking monsoon rain in Karachi has risen to 18. According to the rescue officials, as many as 18 person killed and several injured due to the yesterday’s heavy rain. Women and children are among the deceased as several other people also got injured in rain-related incidents in the metropolis. Nine people, including women and children, were killed when the wall of a shopping mall collapsed at Saima Square in Gulistan-e-Jauhar. Rescuers recovered all the bodies buried in the debris. Four people drowned in different incidents. In a similar incident, a person was killed in Ferozabad neighbourhood when a wall came down on him. Two people drowned in the Korangi River and Gadap after the torrential downpour triggered massive flooding in many parts of the city, rising the water level in stormwater drains. A person died of electrocution in Sukhan. Besides, a woman died after a wall collapsed in the city’s Ibrahim Hyderi locality. A person drowned in Saad Colony while a wall collapse killed a person within the remits of Nabi Buksh police station. All the roads and streets have become rivers and streams. The flood has washed away everything, including vehicles, bikes and heavy containers, on his way. A police van reaching Shahra-e-Faisal to help citizens was also stuck in the rainwater.
