ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) has decided to launch the anti-government campaign.
Speaking to the journalists after a party meeting at the Parliament House along with other PML-N leaders, former premier Shahid Khaqan Abbasi announced to stage a protest across country during different phases.
The PML-N leader said that this will be started on
Youm-e-Takbir from Islamabad and Maryam Nawaz would address in public rally in the federal capital.
He announced to launch a country-wide campaign after Eidul Fitr against rampant inflation and unemployment by connecting with people. “We will tell the people on Youm-e-Takbir that [former PM] Nawaz Sharif is a political prisoner,” he added.
Minimum wage should be raised to at least Rs20,000
The former premier demanded that in light of the concerning inflation, the minimum wage should be raised to at least Rs20,000 a month. He also demanded rescinding the extraordinary hikes in the prices of petrol and diesel. “Prices [of petroleum products] should be set at a level that is bearable,” he stated.
No new tax in forthcoming annual budget
There should be no new tax in the forthcoming annual budget or increase in the rates of existing taxes either, Abbasi added.
Demands govt to disclose IMF conditions
The PML-N demanded that the government come forward with the conditions set by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) so that the public would know the deal we have made with the Fund.
Khaqan Abbasi said that there were a lot of suspicions regarding the conditions that the government had agreed to with the Fund.
Slams PTI’s ‘anti-public policies’
Khaqan Abbasi mentioned that an upwards bump of 1.5 per cent in the interest rate would create more problems for the people. To a question, he said the government was already at new lows, which is why the aim was not to topple the rulers but to resolve the people's issues.
NAB taking revenge beside accountability
Criticising the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Abbasi said that the reality of the anti-corruption watchdog has been laid bare in front of the Pakistani people, he mentioned, adding that, today, everyone says what the NAB is doing is not accountability but revenge.
Respect to vote
“We stuck by our slogan of respect to vote in the past and we stick by it in present too; today, [former PM] Nawaz Sharif is in the jail because of his viewpoint,” Abbasi said.
Talking to the journalists,
PML-N vice president Maryam Nawaz said that the narrative of the party was the same which was ‘
vote ko izzat do’ (respect to vote).
To a question regarding PML-N's weak role in the opposition, she hinted that the party will play a stronger role in the parliament from now on. She also criticised the NAB, declaring that the anti-corruption watchdog was had no credibility.
