PML-N, PPP and JUI submit new application for formation of a bench to hear suo motu notice

ISLAMABAD (92 News) - The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) and the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) have submitted a new application for the formation of a bench to hear the suo motu notice of the date given by President Arif Alvi for elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

They contended, in the application, that a bench excluding Justice Ejazul Ahsan and Justice Mazahar Naqvi should be formed as both judges have already expressed their opinion over the elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) has already developed differences over the issue. SCBA president Abid Zubairi appointed Secretary Muqtdar Akhtar Shabbir as counsel for the case, while the executive body appointed Ahsan Bhoon through a resolution.

On February 22, the Supreme Court had taken a suo motu notice for not announcing the date for the elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The suo motu notice will be heard by the nine-member larger bench on February 27.
