PML-N’s Raheela Durrani elected Balochistan speaker unopposed

QUETTA (92 News) – Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Raheela Hameed Khan Durrani has become the first woman in the history of the province to be elected Balochistan Assembly Speaker on Thursday.

Durrani was elected today as Speaker of the Balochistan Assembly unopposed. Raheela Durrani is the 14th speaker of Balochistan Assembly and the first ever woman speaker of the house.

The time for submission of nomination papers was set at ten but Jamiat Ulema Islam-Fazl’s (JUI-F) Mufti Gulab tried to submit his nomination papers at 10:30 and declared election staff responsible for the delay.

The JUI-F leader Mufti Gulab's nomination papers were rejected by the Presiding Officer for submitting after a delay of 30 minutes and announced Raheela Durrani the new speaker unopposed.

Presiding officer Lyaqat Agha administered the oath after which Speaker Durrani chaired a session.

Former chief minister Balochistan Dr Abdul Malik assured the speaker of his cooperation to fight the challenges.

Rahila Hameed Khan Durrani was elected Member Balochistan Assembly in 2013 on the ticket of Pakistan Muslim League-N for reserve seat for woman in the Balochsitan Assembly. Earlier, she had remained Provincial Minister for Prosecution in the government of Nawab Muhammad Aslam Raisani. She is law graduate, experienced and senior lawyer and senior office-bearer of scouts association.
