PM’s Skardu trip cancelled due to bad weather

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan’s scheduled visit to Skardu has been cancelled due to the bad weather, sources said on Friday. According to the sources, PM Khan’s aviator was not given clearance to make the trip to Skardu due to inclement weather. The premier is now set to preside over a party meeting in Islamabad. Earlier, the prime minister is all set to pay a one-day visit to Skardu today where he has to address a public gathering and also inaugurate a 250-bed hospital. Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan, Ali Amin Gandapur, reached Skardu on Thursday to review the arrangements for the premier’s visit. Talking to journalists, Gandapur maintained that the current government will make Gilgit-Baltistan self-sufficient by promoting tourism in the area. He said that Prime Minister Imran was interested in progress of Gilgit Baltistan and added that he would inaugurate various development projects in Skardu on Friday.
Over 50,000 tourists visit Skardu airport this year
As many as 50,000 tourists visited Skardu airport for recreation, proving that steps taken by PM Imran Khan for the promotion of tourism have started yielding results. The beauty of the tourist resort having mountains, lakes and dense forest lures the tourists. Keeping in view the rush, the prime minister has ordered to extend the Skardu and Chitral airports. The Civil Aviation Authority has issued tenders for the extension of both airports. Flights are likely to increase at Skardu airport after the extension project. Skardu – a beautiful valley of Baltistan – is located at an altitude of 7316 ft with an average temperature of 26 degree Celsius. Skardu is famous for its scenic natural beauty, fresh water springs, delicious fruits and pleasant weather. Skardu airport is located 11miles from the city.
