Police shows concern over Dua Mangi, her father’s statement

KARACHI (92 News) – Police have showed concern over the statement of Dua Mangi, who recovered after abduction from Karachi’s DHA Clifton area, and her father’s statement. According to the investigation sources, the daughter and father’s statement are not assisting in the probe so preferring other evidence including forensic, mobile data and CCTV footage during the investigation. Earlier, the sources in police said that ransom for abducted Dua Mangi was paid on Friday in South Zone near mosque and the police was not taken into confidence by the relatives. According to the sources, the inquiry team said that Dua’s ransom was paid on Friday and she returned home the same day. The suspects had contacted Dua’s relatives through WhatsApp but they did not take police into confidence. The sources also said that Mangi’s kidnappers had fire upon officers of the Aziz Bhatti police station three days ago. The suspects, who were wearing masks at the time, opened fire on the police vehicle as soon as they saw it. Police said that the shootout resulted in one suspect and two police officers getting wounded. Shells obtained from the shootout matched with those obtained from the gun of the kidnappers which was used to shoot Dua’s friend Haris Soomro. The investigation team said that the car in which the suspects had kidnapped Dua had been stolen from Ferozabad. The kidnappers used a fake number plate on the car. Earlier, Dua Mangi, who was kidnapped by unknown armed people from Karachi’s Defence area, reached her home on Friday night. She is well and her family is reluctant to tell anything about her. Dua Mangi was kidnapped while her friend Haris Fatah Soomro was shot at and injured. Addressing a press conference on Thursday, South Zone DIG Sharjeel Kharal said that the incident seemed to be a case of kidnapping for ransom. “It has been ascertained through investigation that she was kidnapped for ransom,” he said. According to a Karachi police spokesperson, police were investigating the case from different aspects as more than 12 persons had been questioned. On Friday, Haris, who was wounded by bullet shot of kidnappers while saving Dua Mangi, has recorded his initial statement before the police investigators, ARY News reported on Friday. Sources said that Haris had recorded his initial statement before the investigators. He had identified the vehicle from CCTV footage of the Dua Mangi kidnap incident.
