LAHORE (92 News) – Polling began on Sunday in a closely contested NA-122 by-election seen as a referendum on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's rule after he swept to power in 2013 elections. The race for the parliamentary seat in Punjab, Pakistan's richest province, pits the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) party against the opposition Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). 347, 762 voters will cast their vote in favor of one candidate from total of seventeen. Voters distribution is as: male voters are 190,328 and female are 157,434. Security matters are under the control of Punjab Rangers and Pak Army. Polling started at 08:00am and will end at 05:00pm without any break. A total of seventeen candidates are in the arena in NA-122 Lahore. Prominent among them are Sardar Ayaz Sadiq of PML-N, Abdul Aleem Khan of PTI and Barrister Mian Aamir Hassan of PPP. The election commission set up 284 polling stations in Lahore’s NA-122. Of them, 80 polling stations have been declared as sensitive. On the other hand, the PTI candidate Aleem Khan along with his followers visited Data Darbar before casting his vote. Meanwhile, PML-N candidate Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has casted his vote at Allama Iqbal Road polling station.
