Polling underway in PP-78 by-polls

JHANG (92 News) – The polling for by-election in Punjab’s PP-78 Jhang is underway on Thursday (today), which will continue till 5 pm without any break. The seat fell vacant after the Supreme Court disqualified Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Rashida Yaqoob for concealing assets. She was elected to the assembly in the 2013 general elections. A total of 206,562 registered voters, including 108,627 males and 97,935 females will exercise their right to vote in the constituency. As many as 25 candidates of different political parties including a transgender are contesting the by-election from the constituency. A tough contest is expected between Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) Azad Nasir Ansari and Independent candidate Maulana Masroor Nawaz. Security forces have been deployed in and outside the polling stations, while all polling stations have been declared sensitive.
