KARACHI (92 News) - Popular Qawwal and Naat Khawan Amjad Sabri was remembered on his sixth death anniversary on Wednesday.

Amjad Sabri’s soulful voice and his tragic targeted killing makes us all sad even after six passed years.

Amjad Sabri was the son and nephew of the Qawwal icons from the Sabri Brothers, Ghulam Farid Sabri and Maqbool Sabri. Like his elders, Sabri dedicated his life and serve the tradition of sufi qawwali. Sabri’s most famous kalaam ‘Tajdar-e-Haram’ and ‘Bhar Do Jholi’ is still in the hearts of his fans.

Lastly, he worked on a project with Coke Studio where he performed Aaj Rang Hai with Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. But, unfortunately, Amjad Sabri couldn’t witness the release of his much-awaited project of Coke Studio. He has emerged as quite celebrated and prominent qawaal in the region.

After his father, Ghulam Sabri and Uncle Maqbool Ahmed Sabri, he continued their legacy of Qawaali, coupled it up with the chords of present’s musical epoch and taken Qawaali to the new heights of attractiveness and recognition in sub-continent. His dua Karam Mangta Hoon, is also a much celebrated master piece.

On June 22, 2016, on his way back to home from a morning show, he was shot dead in Karachi. His killers in their confessional statements accused him of alleged blasphemy. People in large numbers attended his funeral and proffered farewell with him much zeal, love and affection.
