Power outage in Sindh as 500kv Jamshoro grid station catches fire

JAMSHORO (92 News) – A power outage was reported in 10 districts of Sindh after a fire erupted at a 500KV grid station of National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC) in Jamshoro early Tuesday morning. According to the reports, at least 66 out of 76 feeders of Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO) were shut down due to fire at the Jamshoro Grid Station due to which power supply to several cities of Sindh was disrupted. The power supply to Karachi was suspended too. The K-Electric, in a statement, said that the grid station provides power supply of 600 Megawatts to the city, of which 200 MW was suspended. Panic gripped the area after the blaze. Fire brigade personnel and vehicles from Lakhra Power House, Lakhra Thermal Power House, Noriabad, Hyderabad and Kotri were called to douse the fire. The inferno was contained and extinguished within two hours. Four fire trucks participated in the operation. The power was restored in Hyderabad, Jamshoro, Thatta, Badin and Karachi after seven hours of extensive repair work.
