PPP's Yusuf Raza Gilani, PML-N's Saidal Khan Nasir elected Senate chairman & deputy chairman unopposed

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani of the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) and PML-N's Saidal Khan Nasir have been elected as the Senate chairman and deputy chairman unopposed respectively.

They were elected unopposed after the PTI candidates boycotted the election and did not submit their nomination papers. Later, Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, who was the presiding officer, administered the oath to the newly elected Senate chairman.

Later, Senate Chairman Yusuf Raza Gilani administered the oath to Deputy Chairman Saidal Khan Nasir.

During the session, the PTI senators staged a protest and objected to the election. However, Ishaq Dar continued the proceedings.

Meanwhile, 41 newly-elected senators, including Hamid Khan and Allama Nasir, also took the oath.

After the announcement of the schedule, Syed Yusuf Raza Khan and Saidal Khan Nasir submitted their nomination papers and they were declared successful after no candidate submitted their papers against them.
