President Alvi approves 90-day remission in sentences of prisoners on Eid Milad-un-Nabi (SAW)

ISLAMABAD (APP) - President Dr Arif Alvi has approved 90-day remission in the sentences of prisoners on the occasion of Eid Milad-un-Nabi (SAW).

The remission in sentences, approved by the President under Article 45 of the Constitution, will applicable on the male and female prisoners of over 65 and 60 years of age, respectively, having completed one-third of their imprisonment period.

The remission in sentences will also be applicable on the prisoners of under 18 years of age having completed one-third of their imprisonment period, a press release issued by the President’s Media Wing here on Friday said.

However, the remission in sentences will not be applicable to the prisoners involved in heinous acts like murder, espionage, anti-state activities, rape, theft, robbery, kidnapping, terrorism, financial crimes as well as those convicted for inflicting loss to national kitty, it added.
