President Arif Alvi promulgates NAB Amendment Ordinance, Javed Iqbal to stay

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – President Dr Arif Alvi on Wednesday promulgated the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Amendment Ordinance 2021 on Wednesday, allowing Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal to stay till appointment of the new chairman.

According to the ordinance, the President will consult Prime Minister Imran Khan and Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif for the appointment of the new chairman.

The ordinance has authorized the President to reappoint the NAB chairman on completion of his tenure.

Moreover, the NAB powers of dealing with the tax cases have been abolished. The decisions made by the cabinet, committees, councils, commissions, corporations and authorities have been exempted from the NAB.

In addition, the NAB will not be able to take action against the acts of authorities taken in good faith. The President can transfer the accountability court judge in consultation with the chief justice.
