Deadline ends for presidential candidates to withdraw nomination papers

ISLASMABAD (92 News) – The deadline has been ended for the presidential candidates to withdraw their nomination papers. According to the ECP, candidates could withdraw their candidature by 12 noon today. The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) published the final list of candidates for the presidential election at 1pm. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's Dr Arif Alvi, Pakistan People's Party's (PPP) Aitzaz Ahsan and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rahman are in the race for the presidential election to be held on September 4. Earlier, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Justice Sardar Muhammad Raza had accepted nomination papers of all the three candidates contesting presidential election. Dr Arif Alvi of the PTI, PML-N backed Maulana Fazlur Rehman and Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan of the PPP are the main contenders in the presidential election to be held on Tuesday (September 4). The PPP has decided that it would not withdraw its presidential candidate Ahsan.
