KARTARPUR (92 News) – Prime Minister Imran Khan on Saturday inaugurated the Kartarpur corridor on the 550th birth anniversary celebrations of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. On his arrival at Kartarpur, Prime Minister Imran Khan was accorded a rousing welcome. Indian politician Navjot Singh also accompanied him. Punjab Governor Ch Sarwar received the prime minister. Later, the prime minister took a round of various sections of Gurdwara. He also shook hand with Indian former prime minister Manmohan Singh. Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Noorul Haq Qadri and Interior Minister Ijaz Shah are also accompanying him. Over 10,000 Sikhs are attending the inaugural ceremony. Under special instructions from Prime Minister Imran Khan, Sikh yatrees from India have been exempted from passport and the US$20 service fee. The yatrees reached Gurdwara by the shuttle service. The corridor is being opened on the 550th birth anniversary celebrations of Guru Nanak Dev Ji beginning from Tuesday. The landmark project initiated on the directives of Imran Khan as a peace-building measure for the region and to promote interfaith harmony, is entirely funded and executed by Pakistan as a gift for Sikh community. Prime Minister Imran Khan, as a mark of utmost facilitation, has waived off the condition of passport and the fee for pilgrims, who are visiting Pakistan, on the day of inauguration of the corridor and Guru JI's birthday. Initially, 5,000 yatrees (pilgrims) per day are expected to come from India.
