Protecting low income segments of society govt's top priority: PM

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Prime Minister Imran Khan has said protecting the low income segments of the society is the top most priority of the government. Addressing an important meeting regarding poverty alleviation and provision of the respectable employment to the youth on Thursday, he said that the government will soon present a detailed programme for poverty alleviation. – Housing task Force session – Prime Minister Imran Khan has approved 5-years plan for enhanced National Financial Inclusion Strategy. This approval was given during a meeting held on Thursday. National Financial Inclusion Strategy lays out the national vision, framework, action plan and targets for financial inclusion in the country. He said that it is envisioned that implementation of five years plan would translate into creation of 3 million jobs and additional exports of 5.5 billion dollars through enhanced access to finance to SMEs. He said the plan also includes a strategy to increase the deposit base of banks to 55 percent of GDP and encourage higher savings. The Prime Minister said that the 05-years plan would facilitate citizens and the financial institutions, especially in priority sectors of economy, and would thus help realizing the huge potential that existed in SMEs, agriculture and Islamic banking sector. – Trouble-free access to justice will be ensured – Prime Minster Imran Khan says all out efforts will be made to provide speedy and trouble-free access to justice to the people particularly the weak segments of the society as per its election manifesto. Chairing a meeting on legal reforms, he said it is the basic responsibility of the state to protect the rights of its citizens mobilizing all the state resources. The Prime Minister particularly directed to ensure the basic rights of women, children and the domestic servants. The Prime Minister was informed that modern technology solutions are being introduced to help the courts in dispensation of easy justice to the needy people. Minister for Law and Justice Farogh Nasim said a Whistleblower Protection and Vigilance Commission are being constituted for protection of those pin pointing corruption and other crimes and to reward them properly. He said government servants will also be facilitated in seeking justice in their service matters. Moreover, Prime Minister Imran Khan will inaugurate four more trains tomorrow. These trains are Sindh Express from Karachi to Sukhar, Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai Express from Karachi to Mirpur Khas, Faislabad Express and Rehman Baba Express from Peshawar to Karachi. – PM briefed Chairperson Benazir Income Support – The prime minister was given a detailed briefing by Chairperson Benazir Income Support programme Dr Sania Nishtar about the future course of action about the poverty alleviation and provision of respectable employment top those living under the poverty line. She apprised the prime minister about the lacunas existing in the BISP especially the problems relating to the cash transfer to the deserving people. The meeting also discussed the future strategy for implementing the Prime Minister's vision on the stunted growth in children. The meeting was also attended by Finance Minister Asad Umar, Prime Minister's advisor Ishrat Hussain, Prime Minister's Special Assistant Iftikhar Durrani and others.
