LAHORE (92 News) – A local court sent Capt (retd) Safdar to jail for 14 days for making a provocative speech on Tuesday. The court rejected the police request for the physical remand of the accused. Meanwhile, Capt (retd) Safdar has submitted an application, through his counsel Farhad Ali Shah, for bail. The counsel stated that the arrest of his client is illegal. “According to the allegations leveled by the police, the case does not come under the Punjab police. The police have leveled the allegation of an anti-government video that went viral. It is a cyber crime case,” he said. He demanded that his client should be released after declaring his arrest null and void. Sources said that Capt (retd) Safdar would not be given the facility of any class. On Monday night, the police had arrested Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) leader and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s son-in-law Captain Safdar in for making provocative speech. He was arrested soon after former prime minister Nawaz Sharif was shifted to Lahore’s Services Hospital after his platelet level in his blood dropped critically low. On October 12, a Lahore sessions court had approved Safdar’s interim bail till October 26 in a case regarding interference in public matters and misbehavior with the police. Police said a case was lodged against the PML-N leader under Section 124A after October 11 for hate-speech against state institutions.
