KARACHI (92 News) – The fifth edition of Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2020 trophy has been unveiled on Wednesday at Karachi’s National Stadium. The was the first-ever trophy unveiling ceremony for the tournament on Pakistani soil. Squash icon Jahangir Khan brought the glittering trophy to the stadium.  In an international-styled ceremony, Jahangir brought the silverware to the field of play and hand it over to captain Sarfraz Ahmed of defending champions Quetta Gladiators after which the brand new trophy was unveiled by PCB chairman Ehsan Mani in the presence of six franchise owners and captains. Captains of the PSL franchises and their owners were also present on the occasion. PCB chairman Ehsan Mani has said that Peshawar will also host the PSL matches next year. “In future, we will try to organize the PSL matches in all cities. We want to hold the ICC events in Pakistan as well,” he said. The PCB chairman said that they are thankful to the Karachi administration on making the best arrangements. Sarfraz Ahmed said that they will return to the national team after performing in the PSL matches. Shadab Khan said that he was not under pressure for assuming the captaincy of United Team. The PSL has been begun in Karachi on February 20 and the city’s traffic police have released route plan for the citizens during the tournament. Released plan is detailing the roads that will be closed in and around the National Stadium during the matches. The roads leading up to the stadium will all be closed during the games, which will affect traffic on some of the city’s major arteries such as Karsaz and University Road. The cricket fans have to show their original CNICs and tickets for parking. The parking points will be fixed for the spectators of the matches. The Hassan Square and Stadium fly-overs will be closed along with all the roads adjoining the stadium, including Dalmia Road. Like last year, a shuttle service will be provided from designated parking spots for the convenience of stadium-goers. Karachi will host matches every day from Thursday to Sunday before action moves to Punjab. The league returns to the country’s biggest city for four more consecutive match-days from March 12 to March 15. Prize money of US$1 million PSL fifth edition will carry total prize money of US$1 million as winner of PSL will take $500,000 cash prize while the runners up will receive a cheque of $200,000. According to a press release shared, the league that the tournament will carry total prize money of US$1 million, with $4,500 set aside for each player of the match award given at the end of each match. According to the statement, $80,000 will also be equally distributed to player of the tournament, best batsman, best bowler and for the spirit of cricket award. “The remaining amount will be distributed for other match-related awards like best catch, best run-out and most sixes,” said the press release. PSL set to kick off from February 20 The fifth edition of PSL is set to kick off from February 20 in Karachi. The 34-match tournament will be the biggest cricket tournament to take place in Pakistan after the Asia Cup in 2008. The six-team tournament will be held across four venues with Karachi staging nine matches, Lahore 14 matches, Rawalpindi eight and Multan three matches. In the opening match defending champions, Quetta Gladiators will take on two-time former winners Islamabad United at the National Stadium in Karachi. Start who will perform at opening ceremony The opening ceremony of the PSL-5 will be held at the NSK on February 20. Stars like Abrarul Haq, Aima Baig, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Sajjad Ali, Sanam Marvi and rock band Soch will perform at the opening ceremony, according to a press release issued by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Ali Azmat, Arif Lohar, Haroon and Asim Azhar will perform PSL 2020’s official anthem Tayyar Hain. DG Rangers Sindh reviews arrangements for PSL security On the other hand, Sindh Director General (DG) Rangers Major General Omer Ahmed Bukhari visited National Stadium Karachi (NSK) to inspects security arrangements for PSL season 5. DG Rangers got briefing from the security officials about the arrangements made to ensure foolproof security for the mega event. He also met with the officers and jawans of Sindh Rangers.
