PTI candidate Barrister Sultan wins Mirpur by-election

MIRPUR (92 News) – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) candidate Barrister Sultan Mehmood has defeated Chaudhry Sohaib of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) in a by-election on LA-III Mirpur, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, seat. According to unofficial and unconfirmed results, the PTI candidate secured 17,673 votes, according to unofficial results from all 119 polling stations. He was followed by PML-N’s Sohaib Saeed, who bagged 14,813 votes. The polling started at 8 am and ended at 5pm without any break. The AJK Election Commission had established 119 polling stations to facilitate the voters. A total of 59,494 registered voters including 27,004 women exercised their democratic right to elect their repetitive. It is noteworthy that a by-election was called in LA-3 after the court de-seated PML-N’s Chaudhry Syed. A total of eight candidates were contesting the election, however strong contest was between PTI candidate Barrister Sultan Mehmood Chauhdary and candidate PML-N Suhaib Saeed. Strict security measures have been put in place to ensure smooth polling and deter any untoward incident.
