PTI formally announces Imran Khan as candidate for PM

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Monday formally announced party chairman Imran Khan as candidate for the next prime minister of Pakistan. A parliamentary meeting of the PTI underway in this regard at a private hotel in Islamabad. The newly-elected members of National Assembly were also taken into confidence while Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Arif Alvi were nominated for the seat of National Assembly (NA) speaker. Whereas Shehryar Afridi and Zartaj Gul were nominated candidates for the NA deputy speaker In the meeting, Imran Khan announced that Imran Ismail will be appointed as Sindh Governor. He also said that Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief ministers would be nominated shortly. Imran Khan thanked the members for showing their trust on him. "The change for which PTI has been struggling for 22 years will now going to be witnessed," he added. The meeting was attended by senior politicians including Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Asad Umar, Pervez Khattak, Chaudhry Sarwar and Shafqat Mahmood. A day earlier, PTI spokesperson Fawad Ch claimed that he has secured the support of 177 seats in Punjab Assembly against 172 seats required to elect the prime minister of Pakistan. He also claimed that he has secured the support of 186 seats in Punjab Assembly against 149 seats required to elect the Punjab Chef minister.   The Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid-e-Azam (PML-Q), Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P), the Sindh based Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA), Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) and Awami Muslim League (AML) have allied with the PTI to help it form the new government at the Centre. The PTI, which is now in a comfortable position to elect Imran Khan as the next prime minister, is said to have also finalised the names of party leaders who will be part his cabinet.
