PTI MNA Alamgir's father among 15 killed in Karachi blast

KARACHI (92 News) – As many as 15 people, including father of PTI MNA Alamgir Khan, were killed in a blast in a two-storey building near Paacha Sher Shah Chowk, SITE area on Saturday.

The deceased include Altaf, Muhammad Shafique, Islam, Rashid Khan, Dilawar Khan, Soba Khan, Nasarullah, Junair Zehri, Zahid Hussain, Shafiullah, Inamullah, Muhammad Younis, Dildar, Zeeshan and Marabat Khan.

As many as 16 people were injured and shifted to hospitals. The condition of three injured is stated to be critical. During the relief activities, another blast also occurred. A man fell into the drain due to the blast.

The Rescue officers have pulled the body from the drain.

According to the police, the blast occurred due to filing of gas in the drain. The two-storey building had been constructed over the drain. Several parts of the building were damaged due to the blast. People were killed after being buried under the debris.

Eyewitnesses told 92 News that there was an explosion in the gas pipeline a few days ago but no action was taken.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Imran Khan has expressed grief over the incident. "My heartfelt prayers and condolences go to all the families of victims of the twin blasts at Sher Shah Paracha Chowk, Karachi. I am especially saddened to hear of the loss of our MNA Alamgir Khan’s father who also perished in the blast. May Allah give him strength to bear this loss."

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has taken notice of the Karachi blast and directed the commissioner to conduct a detailed inquiry. The Health Secretary has been directed to immediately provide all necessary facilities to the injured in the Civil Hospital.

Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar has expressed grief over the death of father of PTI MNA Alamgir Khan in the Karachi blast. He shared his sympathies with the bereaved family and prayed for the departed soul.

In a tweet, Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif said that he was deeply grieved over the loss of precious lives and damage to property in a sad incident in Karachi. "I extend my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. The incident needs a thorough probe and those responsible should be held to account," he added.
