KARACHI (92 News) – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MPA Ramzan Ghanchi was shot and injured near Karachi’s Ghas Mandi in wee hours on Friday. According to the reports, armed men opened fire at the PTI lawmaker after a brawl over a pipeline near his office in Ghas Mandi. Ghanchi was wounded in the leg after he was fired at late night, was initially shifted to Civil Hospital, Karachi from where he was later moved to a private hospital for treatment. SSP City Muqaddas Haider said a case of the shooting has been registered at the Napier police station. The police officer also mentioned that the alleged suspects included Suleman Usman Soomro, the president of the Karachi Timber Merchants Group (KTMG), and his son, both of whom have been taken into police custody. He said further investigation into the firing incident is being carried out. PTI’s leader Khurrum Sher Zaman also addressed the journalists at the scene, saying he received a call from Ghanchi's number some 30 minutes ago and the wounded party worker said he was shot at by [KTMG vice chairperson] Suleman Soomro's son Ali Soomro. There was no water in their area so they convened a meeting, he said, adding that during the discussion where "two to three neighbours were present", the Soomros allegedly started firing and wounded the PTI leader, who did not have any security guards with him. Ghanchi was elected from Lyari (PS-109) in the July 25 general election. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Firdous Shamim Naqvi said that the people associated with the Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) opened fire on the PTI’s MPA Ramzan Ghanchi. He is also afraid of war on the water crisis in the metropolis. On the other hand, PPP leader Syed Gani said that no member of provincial assembly (MPA) has authority to allow water connection.
