ISLAMABAD (92 News) - Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Umar Ata Bandial has said that people had elected MNAs for five years and the PTI must play its role in the parliament.

A two-member bench headed by Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial heard the case against approval of phase-vise resignations of PTI’s assembly members. During the hearing, the CJP adviced the PTI to return to the Assembly. He remarked that the people have elected the members of the Assembly for five years. "Their main duty is to play a role in the parliament."

PTI lawyer Faisal Chaudhry said that Imran Khan had collected Rs13.5 billion for the flood victims. "PTI members are helping flood victims in their constituencies."

The CJP said that the flood victims have neither drinking water nor bread to eat. “People are coming to help the flood victims from abroad. See also the economic condition of the country. A decision has been made after examining the law in depth. The speaker has his own procedure. How can we intervene? This kind of intervention is a very difficult task for the court.”

“The order of the High Court has clearly stated that the approval of phased-vise resignations of the Speaker is legal. Apparently, Article 69 may be affected by interfering with the power of the Speaker. Satisfy the Court as to what is lacking in the order of the High Court. Every institution has its own capacity. There is a complete system for general elections. Turnout is also low in by-elections,” he added.

Later, the court adjourned the hearing for an indefinite period, giving another chance to the PTI to prepare a case against the approval of the phase-vise resignations.
