Punishment of sections applied to PTI chairman is life imprisonment, death penalty: IHC

ISLAMABAD (92 News) - The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday observed that the punishment of sections applied to the PTI chairman in the cipher case is life imprisonment and death penalty.

A 10-page judgment regarding rejection of Shah Mahmood Qureshi's bail plea ruled that abetment, conspiracy or aiding and abetting of crime will be treated as the main offence.

It ruled that PTI vice-chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi will also be seen in the same context.

The directed the special court to complete the trial in four months.

The verdict ruled that undoubtedly the bail is not a deterrent to punishment. "However, courts are cautious in granting bail to accused facing life imprisonment and death sentence. The bail cannot be granted in such cases unless there is a reasonable cause," the IHC observed in the judgment.
