Punjab CM directs authorities to drain out rainwater immediately

LAHORE (92 News) – Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Usman Buzdar has directed the authorities concerned to drain out immediately rainwater from low-lying areas following heavy rains in Lahore. In a statement, the chief minister has ordered the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Lahore and management to bring into effect all resources for water drainage in the least possible time. He also directed all officers to remain in field to and implement plan devised by authorities to drain out water and warned that no carelessness will be tolerated. It is worth mentioning here that heavy rains have inundated low-lying areas in Lahore and power outages have further added difficulties to people’s lives. Heavy monsoon rainfall lashed the provincial metropolis and adjoining areas on Thursday, inundated several low-lying areas of the Lahore. According to the reports, Lahore experienced incessant rain, causing massive urban flooding and damage to houses. The streets were inundated, making travel cumbersome. The incessant rain lasted for several hours, causing water to accumulate in several areas of the provincial capital. Routine life came to a grinding halt and traffic was severely affected, while power supply was disrupted to various parts of the city. Due to the ineffectiveness of the aging sewerage network, especially in low-lying areas, rainwater entered shops and houses, thus ruining valuables. Due to the rain, roads, highways and underpasses turned into ponds. The only water is looking around everywhere on Davis Road, Garhi Shahu, Gulberg, Jail Road, Mughalpura, Anarkali. The people are facing difficulties to reach their offices. The rain was recorded 10 mm during the 12 hour-period in the provincial capital. WASA teams are busy to drain the water.
