Punjab govt rejects Bahria Town's offer to construct Dadhocha Dam

LAHORE (92 News) – The Punjab government on Tuesday rejected Bahria Town’s offer to construct Dadhocha Dam. During a hearing, the Supreme Court had said that the Punjab government should inform the cabinet if they wanted to construct the Dadhocha Dam themselves. The Punjab Irrigation Department representatives’ apprised the bench, headed by Justice Azmat Saeed, the dam will be built by the government itself and that construction will be completed by December 2021. The secretary of the irrigation department told the court that the government's experts had looked over Bahria Town's offer in detail. Technical experts raised a total of 108 questions on Bahria town's proposal, the secretary told the court. He then said that the government will carry out the court's order on the matter in letter and spirit. He repeated that the dam would be built within two and a half years. On the government's assurance that the dam would be built in the given time, the court wrapped up the case.
Agenda of non-construction of Dadhocha dam will not be fulfilled: CJP
Earlier, Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar asserted that the agenda of non-construction of dams will not be fulfilled.

A bench headed by the chief justice heard Dadhocha dam case. During the hearing, the CJP Nisar remarked that those who opposing the construction of dams are working on someone else’s agenda.

“We will not allow the agenda of non-construction of dams to be fulfilled. They are being built for the future of upcoming generations,” he also asserted. “No need to say that the Supreme Court should form a political party, he said. He added that if anyone tries to defame the apex court, he cannot be easily ignored. The CJP pronounced that that dam will be constructed at every cost and no compromise will be made on the construction of dams. Later, the Supreme Court sought a time frame for construction of Dadhocha dam from the Punjab government. A day earlier, CJ Nisar expressed similar reaction during the hearing of a case pertaining to early construction of Punjab Kidney and Liver Institute. Saqib Nisar sternly remarked that those calling dam funds ‘begging’ should be ashamed of themselves.
