Punjab govt suspends Nawaz Sharif's sentence in Al-Azizia reference

LAHORE (92 News) - The Punjab government suspended the sentence of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday.

Nawaz Sharif had submitted an application to the Punjab government for the suspension of his sentence. Punjab Caretaker Information Minister Amir Mir has confirmed the suspension of the sentence of Nawaz Sharif.

The caretaker cabinet has suspended the sentence under Section 401 of the Criminal Procedural Code 2019.

Meanwhile, Caretaker CM Mohsin Naqvi clarified that the sentence in the Al-Azizia reference has not been suspended and the case has been referred to the court. He pointed out that during the Buzdar administration, Nawaz Sharif's request was dismissed without a fair hearing. "The case has been forwarded to the court under Section 401."
