Punjab govt working on improving infrastructure, says CM’s adviser
LAHORE (92 News) – Adviser to Punjab Chief Minister on Economic Affairs and Planning Salman Shah said on Monday that the provincial government is working on improving infrastructure, adding efforts are afoot to create job opportunities.
Addressing a press conference alongside Finance Minister Makhdoom Hashim Jawan Bakht, the adviser said that the government is carrying out development work in the province to improve the provincial economy. He added that the government is making efforts to bring improvements at a micro level.
Salman Shah said the Punjab government is mulling over accelerating uplift work in the province to boost the economy and expressed the government’s commitment to improve Punjab’s economy.
He said the provincial government is working on improving infrastructure, adding efforts are afoot to create job opportunities. Noting that Punjab is the largest province of the country with a huge market, he linked the country’s progress with that of Punjab province.
On the occasion, the finance minister said the government should not cut development spending, especially projects of immense significance, owing to economic distress. He billed the provincial government’s public-private partnership model as the best in the country.
A notification for Salman Shah’s appointment has been issued and the economist has been directed by the Punjab chief minister to assume responsibilities immediately.
Dr Salman Shah served as an adviser to prime minister Shaukat Aziz in 2004-08 with the status of federal minister during the Musharraf regime.
His appointment follows that of Abdul Hazeez Sheikh as Prime Minister Imran Khan’s adviser on finance after Asad Umar stepped down as finance minister.

According to reports, one of the five advisers to the Punjab chief minister resigned on May 14 to make room for Dr Salman Shah in the provincial cabinet.
Akram Chaudhry stepped down after the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) asked the five advisers that if anyone of them would voluntarily resign so that an economist could be inducted in the provincial cabinet to look after Punjab’s financial affairs.
The chief minister could have only five advisers as per the Supreme Court’s verdict.
