Punjab presents Rs3,226 bln budget for FY2022-23, raises salaries by 15% & pension by 5%

LAHORE (92 News) - The Punjab government an Rs3,226 billion budget for the next fiscal year 2022-23.

Presenting the budget on Wednesday, Punjab Finance Minister Awais Leghari announced that the government had announced salaries by 15 percent and pension by five percent.

He said that a 15 percent special allowance had been proposed for the government employees from BS-1 to BS-19. "The minimum wages of the labourers have been increased from Rs20,000 to Rs25,000," he declared.

Criticizing the previous government, Awais Leghari said that the PTI government had broken the records of corruption. "There was no governance during the last three and a half years. No uplift project was launched by the previous government," he added.

The minister said that no tax has been imposed in Punjab. "The waiver on the provincial sales tax on services has been continued. The biggest relief package has been announced from non-development funds. Under the relief package, a 10kg flour bag will be available at Rs490 instead of Rs600," he announced.

He said that the government had also announced a concessional package of Rs134 billion to facilitate the poor people. "The availability of daily-use items will be ensured," he added.
