Punjab University suspends 14 students over clash

LAHORE (92 News) – The Punjab University (PU) administration suspended 14 students from attending classes for their alleged involvement in a clash. It also cancelled the hostel allotments of these students. The disciplinary committee took the action against the students for creating bad environment and chaos. According to a notification, the university administration took disciplinary action against the students involved in clash and suspended 14 of them from attending classes. The suspended students include Muzafar Ahmad, Ansar Abbas, Qaiser Khan, Naseem Ahmad, Muhammad Umer Ilyas, Kabir Sohail, Bilal Luqman, Muhammad Abdullah, Shazaib Arif, Babar Hussain, Muhammad Rehan, Muhammad Waqas and Imran Khan. It is noteworthy that several students and two guards were injured in a clash between two groups at Punjab University. A heavy contingent of police led by Iqbal Town SSP Capt (retd) Muhammad Ajmal reached the spot and controlled the situation. The violence erupted due to exchange of words at a canteen outside the Sociology Department and the brawl soon developed into a scuffle. Later, students organization staged a sit-in at Campus Bridge. As a result, long queues of vehicles were seen on both sides of the road. The protesters said that the police and administration were doing injustice with them. “We have filed an application with the police. A case should be registered against the accused under the ATA,” they said. They added that they were being implicated in several cases for the last eight years. They said that they would continue their protest till registration of the case. Later, Muslim Town police registered a case against four nominated and 20 unidentified suspects.
