ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Saira Afzal Tarar has said that Punjab was polio-free during the tenure of the PML-N. Addressing a press conference with Senator Ayesha Raza at National Press Club on Friday, she said that today the anti-polio program is in disarray. “Today we are holding the press conference for the PM as he knows everything through TV. We hope the PM will take action after watching TV that the polio situation in Pakistan is very concerning,” she said. “The polio program should be made of Punjab, not the PTI.” Saira Afzal Tarar said that the PML-N gave one year to the incompetent government, but they played havoc with the anti-polio program. “Likewise health and education sectors are also in an abysmal state. Currently there are 62 polio cases in the country, while there were only six cases when we assumed the government,” she said. She said that there is no coordination among federal, provincial and district governments. “We made dozens of tours with regard to polio. We introduced third party device in the Polio Program. We did not launch the polio program just on TV. We spent each penny in the program justifiably,” she said. Saira Afzal Tarar said that the program launched in 90s had been destroyed in a year. “Today it seems that the polio program is in the worst form. The Technical Advisory Group report is a slap in the face of the government,” he said. She requested the government to look into the program which is in disarray. “Today the government is making the polio program a failed one,” she added.
