Quake jolts felt in various cities of KPK

KARACHI (92 News) – An earthquake jolted parts of Khyber Paktunkhwa (KPK) on Saturday with various reports flooding in from the province. According to the reports, no loss of life or property has been reported thus far. The tremors were felt in Swat, Malakand, Mardan, Abbottabad, Swabi , Lower  Dir, Buner and Shangla in Khyber Paktunkhwa. Accoring to the meteorological office (MET) the intensity of the earthquake was recorded at 5.5 on the richter scale. The epicenter of the quake has been revealed to be the bordering areas of Tajikistan and Afghanistan, 70 meters deep in the ground. Earlier on August 8, after a laps of four days, earthquake again jolted parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Gilgit Baltistan (GB) and Punjab. However, no human loss or property damage was reported in any part of the country where tremors were strongly felt. According to the National Seismic Monitoring Centre Islamabad (NSMC), the magnitude of the quake was recorded at 5.9 on Richter Scale while the depth of tremors was observed 279 kilometers deep inside the earth crux. The point of origin was Hindu Kush Region, Afghanistan. Strong shocks were reported in districts of North Waziristan, Dir Bala, Bannu, Laki Marwat, Peshawar, Kohat, Abbotabad, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Chakwal, Pindi Bhatttian, Lahore, Jhang, Chiniot, Toba Tek Singh and other cities. Fearing damage, people ran outside their houses and buildings and prayed for the safety of others. They also kept reciting verses from Holy Quran. On August 4, a quake that also originated from Koh Hindu Kush mountain region struck parts of KP including Peshawar with reported magnitude of 4.9.
