MULTAN (92 News) – Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has opposed the proposed change in the name of the Benazir Income Support Program. Talking to the media on Sunday, he said that the people observe performance, not the name. The minister announced that Pakistan High Commissioner in New Delhi Sohail Mahmood will be appointed as Foreign Secretary after the retirement of Tehmina Janjua. “Sohail Mahmood is a seasoned diplomat,” he said. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bkAG3bfhrt8 “The decision has been made in consultation with Prime Minister Imran Khan,” he said. The minister said that efforts are being made to isolate Pakistan. He urged leaders of opposition parties to cooperate with government in resolving the issues being faced by the country. He said leaders of the political parties should set aside their political differences and play their positive role in security matters of the country. “Despite different kinds of challenges, the incumbent government is trying to bring the country on the way of development,” he added. He said that Imran Khan is neither in favor of relaxation nor a deal. “The NAB is an autonomous institution and reserves the right to hold all accountable,” he said. The minister said that the Southern Punjab province is need of hour.
Have to be alert as Modi govt can do anything till polls: Qureshi
Earlier, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that they will have to be alert till the elections in India because the Modi government can do anything. He said that the election process will be completed till May 19. He claimed that the Pak-India tension had reduced a lot. “India wants to give the colour of terrorism to the struggle of Kashmiris in the Occupied Kashmir,” he said. About the release of Dr Aafia Siddiqui, the minister said that they are trying their best for her release. “May Allah Almighty succeed us in our endeavor,” he added. Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that Pakistan wants peace and resolve the issues through dialogue with India. Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that the United Nations, Russia, United States, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and other friendly countries helped in de-escalating the tension with India and we are thankful to them. The minister said that he is leaving for China on Monday where he will exchange views with the Chinese leadership on latest prevailing situation, especially the current situation with India. To a question, he said that the OIC adopted a resolution on Occupied Jammu and Kashmir and declared the Indian acts as terrorism. He said that Kashmiri people sacrificed with their blood and raised the issue at international level. About Christchurch tragedy, Shah Mehmood Qureshi said the government is in touch with the families of missing people as well as the New Zealand government to attain information at earliest. He said the government is utilizing all channels, including Pakistani High Commission, to know the status of the Pakistani people. He hoped that mosques in European and other world countries will be protected and remain opened for prayer in a safe environment.
