ISLAMABAD (92 News) – An accountability court rejected former premier Raja Pervaiz Ashraf's plea for acquittal in the illegal appointment reference on Tuesday.

The court also rejected the pleas of former secretary Sikandar Hayat and OGRA former executive director Javed Nazir.

On January 24, 2014, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had filed two references, one relating to the illegal appointment of Tauqeer Sadiq as OGRA chairman in 2009 and another relating to corruption and irregularities committed during his tenure.

The NAB had started the investigation into the Ogra scam on the orders of the Supreme Court in November 2011. Tauqeer Sadiq, who is currently on bail, was arrested in Abu Dhabi and brought to Pakistan on July 9, 2013.
