May 7, 2019
ISLAMABAD (92 News) – With the start of the holy month of Ramazan, Taraweeh prayers were offered across country on Monday night. Today is the first fasting as millions of people attended the religious gathering and offered Teraweeh prayers. The Quranic verses were recited and special prayers held for the progress and prosperity of the country. According to Imams and caretakers of the mosques in country, Muslims in their areas were expected to break fast and perform teraweeh (special prayers during Ramazan) at their mosque. The number of cleaners at many mosques has also been increased and renovations at some old mosques have been completed for the convenience of worshipers, said caretaker of local mosque. He said a bigger crowd usually gathered during the fasting month of Ramazan. Another Imam of Masjid said that during Ramazan, religious lectures would be held daily at many mosques after the evening and Taraweeh prayers. Ramazan is the ninth month of the Islamic lunar Calendar, when Muslims around the world fast during the daylight hours, he added. The mosques departments has also taken many steps such as increasing the drinking water supply at mosques and adding more cleaning staff in different work shifts to cover most of the day, especially in the evening time when Taraweeh prayers and Qiyam prayers take place. It's a fasting month but not just about abstaining from food and water but it's about self-reflection and contemplation and reconnecting with our spiritual side and strengthening our connection with Allah by doing extra prayers in Mosques during the whole month, a citizen commented. The biggest gatherings for Taraweeh prayers will be arranged at Kakrachi Expo Centre, MA Jinnah Road and New Memon Masjid. However, some arrangements will be held at the banquets in the metropolis.
