February 12, 2019
LAHORE (92 News) – The arguments of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Prosecutor Akram Qureshi and Opposition Leader in National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif’s lawyer have been completed in Lahore High Court (LHC) on bail plea in Ramzan Sugar Mill case. A two-member bench comprising Justice Malik Shahzad and Justice Mirza Waqas heard the bail petition. NAB’s Special Prosecutor Akram Qureshi in his arguments said that no measures were taken out for draining out the contaminated water from the Ramzan Sugar Mills and construction of nullah cost national exchequer rs 213 mn. Upon query of the court, Qureshi said, Hamza Shehbaz is also an accused in the reference. The bureau has not issued his arrest warrants as he was cooperating with the NAB in the investigation. “NAB only issues arrest warrants of the accused on non-cooperation in the investigation,” he continued. The counsel of Shehbaz in his arguments said the nullah was constructed to benefit seven localities of the adjoining areas not the mills. He alleged that the accountability watchdog has filed a politically motivated reference against his client. Meanwhile, the court after completion of arguments from the both sides adjourned the hearing of the plea until tomorrow. The lawyer of Fawad Hassan Fawad was asked to present his arguments tomorrow. The LHC adjourned the hearing of bail plea filed by Shehbaz Sharif until tomorrow.
LHC rejects NAB’s plea to transfer bail application of Shehbaz
The LHC has dismissed the NAB plea for transferring the bail application of PML-N president Shehbaz Sharif to another bench. LHC Chief Justice Sardar Muhammad Shamim Khan heard the plea. He remarked that allegations are already being leveled against the NAB. “Will the NAB get the bench formed of its own choice?” he questioned. The NAB prosecutor contended that a two-member bench headed by Justice Malik Shehzad is hearing the bail plea of Shehbaz Sharif and it could not hear the plea. He appealed to the court to send the bail plea of Shehbaz Sharif to a bench headed by Justice Ali Baqar Najafi. He said that the bench headed by Justice Ali Baqar Najafi had dismissed the bail pleas of co-accused.The NAB had arrested Shehbaz Sharif for misusing his powers in the Ashiyana Iqbal Housing Scandal and he is on judicial remand these days.
