Rana Amjad becomes approver against ex-PM in rental power case

MULTAN (92 News) – Accused Rana Amjad, Multan Rental Power Project manager, has become the approver against former prime minister Raja Pervez Ashraf on Monday in the Rental Power Projects (RPPs) case. According to the reports, the accountability court accepted the plea of National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) request to include Rana Amjad in the list of the witnesses. The co-suspect Amjad has denied all charges against him filed in the reference. Meanwhile, the accountability watchdog has also decided to file interim reference against Ashraf. Accountability court’s judge Muhammad Bashir has directed NAB to file the reference until next hearing scheduled on December 21. It is pertinent to mentione here that Pervez Ashraf, a Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) politician who served as premier between June 22, 2012 and March 25, 2013, is accused of receiving kickbacks and commissions from nine rental power project firms for awarding contracts for setting up their projects in 2008 to overcome electricity crisis in the country. Earlier, the accountability court (AC) indicted Raja Pervaiz Ashraf and eight others in a case related to illegal recruitments in the Gujranwala Electric Power Company (GEPCO). NAB court judge Najamul Hassan heard the case, during which the court indicted the former prime minister and eight others. Pervaiz Musharraf denied charges after which the court summoned witnesses in the next hearing.
