Recent rains claimed 18 lives, injuries to 36: NDMA
ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on Monday said that at least 18 people lost their lives and 36 others injured in the recent rains related incidents in current spell of across Pakistan.
According to details released by the NDMA, 18 people were killed, 36 were injured, while as many as 2,596 houses were destroyed in present spat of heavy downpour across the country and more affected the area of Balochistan.
NDMA report shows heavy losses in FATA, where nine people were reported to be dead and 13 got injured, while six citizens lost their lives in Balochistan, the report read.
Meanwhile, rescue and relief operations were underway in the affected areas as 10, 000 affectees have been provided with food packets, the authority said, adding that relief teams and relevant departments have been put on high alert to deal with any emergency situation.
Rescue efforts continuing in recent rains hit areas of Balochistan
In Balochistan, security forces continued to assist civil administration for relief and rescue operations in flood affected areas for the third consecutive day today. Army aviation helicopters were employed in Nushki district to rescue stranded people to safer places. Approximately 1300 kg of relief assistance comprising tents, Pillows, quilts and ration packs were delivered through helicopters in affected areas of Mand and Turbat. Cooked food was provided to over 100 families in District Pishin. Army and FC troops also rescued a bus which toppled due to flash flood at Shahnorrani, Hub. A day earlier, following flash flooding in several areas of Balochistan, the Pakistan Army carried out rescue and relief operations .
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the security forces stepped in to assist the civil administration in rescue and relief operations to help trapped people in Lasbela, Makran and other flood-hit areas of Balochistan.
The Pakistan Army reached the areas affected by flash floods caused by heavy rains and snowfall and moved the people trapped there to safety via military helicopters.
Moreover, relief camps have been setup in Makran, Lasbela and other snow-covered areas of northern part of the province.
“Approximately 1,500 families have been rescued in Dureji and Qilla Abdullah areas and rations have been provided to 3,500 families in the rain effected areas,” the statement reads.
Pakistan Army doctors and paramedics are providing first-aid medical assistance and medicines to the affectees. It was reported that stranded vehicles at Khojak pass, Lak pass and Shela Bagh areas have also been rescued by security forces.
Snowfall hit major parts of Balochistan, including the provincial capital, on March 2, while two people reportedly died in Dalbandin and Pishin due to the torrential rains and flash floods.
Major parts of the province have received torrential rains since Friday evening without any pause, while Quetta, Qilla Abdullah, Qilla Saifullah, Kan Mehtarzai, Khanozai and Ziarat valley were shrouded with snowfall.
