Renowned actor, director and host Zia Mohiyuddin passes away in Karachi

KARACHI (92 News) - Renowned actor, director and host Zia Mohiyuddin passed away on Monday. He was 91.

His funeral was held at Imambargah Yasrib after Zohr prayers at Defence. A large number of people from different walks of life attended the funeral.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto, Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb and other political figures have expressed grief over the demise of Zia Mohyuddin.

Zia Mohiyuddin, who was called as the sound wizard, was born in Faisalabad in 1931. He graduated from Government College, Lahore in 1949 and went to the UK for higher education. He joined the Royal Academy of Theater Arts there and started singing and acting. He got training in directing there.

Zia Mohiyuddin founded the stage shows in Pakistan. He presented the famous novel 'A Passage to India' on stage and. In 1962, he played a memorable role in the film 'Lawrence of Arabia'.

He has shown his talent in several theater plays and many Hollywood films. He hosted a program called Zia Mohiyuddin Show on PTV in 1970. His famous programmes include 'Payel', 'Chacha Chhkan', 'Zia Ke Sath' and 'Jo Jane Woh Jitay'. He was appointed as the Director of the National Academy of Performing Arts in Karachi in 2004.
