Renowned poetess, novelist Fahmida Riaz passes away in Lahore

LAHORE (92 News) – Renowned poetess, novelist and human rights activist Fahmida Riaz passed away in Lahore on Wednesday night. She was 72. She belonged to Karachi and had come to Lahore to meet her daughter in Lahore. She was born in Meerut on July 28, 1946. She studied at University of Sindh and started her career as newscaster from Radio Pakistan. She had command of Urdu, Sindhi and Persian languages. She also served as head of the National Book Council Islamabad. Her first collection of verse ‘Pathar Ki Zaban’ was published when she was a student in 1967. Her other famous books are ‘Badan Dareeda’, ‘Apna Juram Sabit Hay’ and ‘Kaya Tum Pura Chand Na Dekho Gay’.
