Report on flour crisis in Punjab sent to Prime Minister Imran Khan

LAHORE (92 News) – A report on the flour crisis in Punjab was sent to Prime Minister Imran Khan on Saturday. Sources said that political figures and bureaucrats responsible for the flour crisis have been pointed out in the 21-page report. The Punjab CM Office has also mentioned the role in the posting/transfer of officers in the Food Department. “The crisis emerged due to administrative incompetence and political pressure,” the sources added. The sources said that the wheat, which was sold at Rs1,550 per maund till November, was increased to Rs1,950 per maund under a planning. An ample quantity of wheat, the sources said, was available in the market two months ago. “It started disappearing from the market in December 2019.” In the report, it has been stated that the quota of flour mills in Lahore was reduced to 45 sacks from 50, while the quota was increased from 25 sacks to 30 in Rawalpindi. Food Secretary Waqas Ali Mahmood also failed in increasing the quota of flour mills. Moreover, Chakki owners also increased the flour price after they were provided clean wheat at Rs2,100 per maund. According to the report, the district administration had taken no step to control the flour crisis. Political figures and officers expressed some activity after the prime minister took notice of the flour crisis. Meanwhile, a report on the flour crisis at the national level will be sent to Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday.
