Row with doctors: Lawyers give ultimatum till Tuesday for accused’s arrest

LAHORE (92 News) – The row between lawyers and doctors intensified after the former gave the police tomorrow until Tuesday for the arrest of the accused. Lawyers locked District and Model courts in protest against delay in the arrest of the accused. They demanded immediate arrest of the accused. They also gathered on the premises of the Lahore High Court and chanted slogans against the police. Addressing the protesters, the District Bar Association president threatened to clock IGP Punjab Office and Secretariat if the accused were not arrested until tomorrow. LHCBA secretary Asim Cheema said that they will continue their protest till fulfillment of their demands. He said that they would announce a joint strategy in consultation with lawyers’ organizations. Earlier, lawyers had ended the strike after a case was registered against doctors for beating their colleagues in hospital. The police registered a case against 12 unidentified doctors and paramedics for allegedly torturing some lawyers at PIC. After the clash between lawyers, paramedics and doctors had staged a demonstration on Jail Road. The clash took place when a lawyer along with his ailing relative visited the PIC. A verbal clash occurred between the lawyer and a doctor. The lawyers had filed a complaint against the doctors and paramedical staff at Shadman police station and a case was registered against 12 unidentified persons. Now after the lawyers protest, the police had added Section 324 and 7ATA to the FIR. On the other hand, doctors, paramedics and nurses observed a strike at PIC and denied the patients healthcare at the Out Patient Department (OPD). The alliance announced to observe the strike till the arrest of the lawyers who allegedly carried out ‘rascality’ in the hospital.
