Rulling alliance wins by-elections in 21 constituencies with a thumping majority

ISLAMABAD (92 News) - The ruling alliance won the by-electiosn in 21 constituencies with a thumping majority on Sunday.

According to unofficial results, the PML-N won two seats, out of five, of the National Assembly. The Pakistan People's Party (PPP) and the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) won one seat each. In NA-8 Bajaur, an independent candidate inflicted an upset defeat on the SIC canddiate.

On the other hand, the PML-N won 10 provincial assembly seats. The PML-Q, the SIC, the BNP, the IPP and an independent candidate won one seat each.

In Lahore, the PML-N captured all seats it vacated after the general elections. In NA-119, Ali Pervez Malik defeated SIC's Shahzad Farooq. In PPP-147, PML-N's Muhammad Riaz defeated Muhammad Madni. In PP-158, Chaudhary Muhammad Nawaz beat SIC's Moonis Elahi.

Rashid Minhas won the PP-164 seat vacated by PM Shehbaz Sharif after defeating Yousaf Mayo. In PP-149, Shoaib Siddiqui of the ruling alliance defeated Zeeshan Rasheed of the SIC.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has congratulated the newl-elected candidates of the by-elections. "The victory of the PML-N candiates in the by-elections reflects people's confidence. The public opinion will further change with improvement in economy," he maintained.
