Rupee gains Rs1.48 against dollar in interbank, closes at Rs278.81

ISLAMABAD (APP) - Pakistani rupee on Thursday gained Rs1.48 against the US dollar in the interbank trading and closed at Rs278.81 against the previous day’s closing of Rs 280.28.

According to the Forex Association of Pakistan (FAP), the selling rate of the dollar in the open market stood at Rs 280.

The price of the Euro decreased by Rs 2.73 to close at Rs293.75 against the last day’s closing of Rs 296.48.. The Japanese Yen lost 01 paisa to close at Rs1.86, whereas a decrease of Rs 4.08 was witnessed in the exchange rate of the British pound, which traded at Rs337.85 as compared to the last closing of Rs 341.93. The exchange rates of the Emirates Dirham and the Saudi Riyal decreased by 40 and 39 paisa to close at Rs 75.90 and Rs 74.33 respectively.

Meanwhile, the 100-index of Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) gained 933.67 points, a positive change of 1.89 per cent, closing at 50,365.15 points against 49,431.48 points the previous day. A total of 427,476,593 shares valuing Rs.14.593 billion were traded during the day as compared to 332,606,956 shares valuing Rs.8.824 billion the previous day.

As many as 361 companies transacted their shares in the stock market; 255 of them recorded gains and 94 sustained losses, whereas the share price of 12 companies remained unchanged.

On the other hand, the per tola price of 24-karat gold decreased by Rs200 and was sold at Rs206,300 compared to its sale at Rs206,500 the previous day of trading. The price of 10 grams of 24-karat gold also decreased by Rs171 to Rs176,869 from Rs177,040 whereas the price of 10 gram 22 karat gold went down to Rs.162,130 from Rs. 162,287.

The price of per tola and ten gram silver remained unchanged at Rs.2,550 and Rs,2,186.21 respectively. The price of gold in the international market increased by $13 to $1,972 from $1,959.
